Exploring the wondrous nature of One Piece’s Devil Fruits

When I was in high school, I remember excitably waiting every week for the next manga chapter of One Piece to be released. What a wild ride of an adventure!! I would religiously read every week for the next few years. I guiltily admit that it became a sort of way of knowing what time of the week it was when life got really busy. And as things go, my habit of reading began to wane as the responsibilities of being an adult piled up.

The live action Netflix adaptation really spurred me back onto the One Piece ship. One of my good friends insisted that we start an ongoing watch party of the rest of the anime from there. Many many episodes later, and still going, I’m thrown back to why I loved this series from the start. The art style, the story, the depth of the characters, and the endless nonsensical whimsy keep you perpetually enthralled.

I was inspired to create a visualized catalogue of all the devil fruits in the series. The sheer number of fruits and powers have really ballooned since the last time I followed the show. When I started planning and designing this, I was curious about whether certain Devil Fruit users found more prominent roles as the storyline progressed well into 1000+ chapters. Sure, we know Luffy is going to appear in the most chapters, but who else joins him in the ranks of most appearances?
